Spring Valley High School Speech and Debate
The top five reasons to register for SPEECH AND DEBATE, aka Forensics:
#1. You LOVE being the center of attention!
If you crave the spotlight and want all eyes on you, then speech and debate is the place for you. Every day in class and once a month in competition, you take your brains or the comedic/dramatic flare and turn it into a spectacle for judges and fellow competitors.
#2. You HATE being the center of attention!!
If you clam up at the idea of someone’s eyes turning in your general direction, begin sweating at the thought of an oral presentation, and pass out when you try karaoke, then forensics is also the place for you. This is the place to conquer the number one fear in the world—public speaking.
#3. You are looking to attend college and add activities to your resume.
Colleges look for debate and competitive speech experience. There is no other “sport” in the world that stimulates all of the senses, requires constant interaction, develops critical analysis, and promotes individual success with an entire team’s support. Forensics allows you to develop and refine your communication skills, acting skills, and critical thinking skills. And best of all, forensics allows your opinions and ideas to be heard. This is drama, the courtroom, and an aerobics workout rolled into one!
#4. You want to promote the Spring Valley spirit!
If you are looking for an elective that screams “grizzly pride” then look no further! You can be a member of the 2016-2017 Spring Valley forensic team and represent the Grizzly Den on the county, state, and national levels in the arena of competitive speech and debate! Sign up now as we continue to represent Spring Valley with first-place speech and debate winners!
#5. You enjoy competition, food, and travel!!
The competitive spirit is alive and well on our team. Our diligence and spirited nature have lead to our current rank in the top 10% of speech and debate programs in the nation. In the past 9 years, it has been our top priority to produce an abundance of county, state, district, and national competitors.
